30 Postcards for Amnon
Described as a large-scale, low-density installation and a puzzle across multiple domains, this work is a series of postcards made for my teacher Amnon Wolman's 50th birthday. I mailed one each day for the 30 days leading up to his birthday: March 14-April 20, 2005. Postcards were mailed from Chicago, Evanston (IL), Atlanta, Austin, Cleveland, Philadelphia, Boston, Washington DC, and New York City. They were sent anonymously and did not give away my identity.
Each postcard contains a piece of 'imaginary music', an idea which I first learned about from Amnon. Some are instructions on how to create, perform or experience the piece; some are descriptions of sound, with the 'performance' taking place in the reader's imagination; some are simply musical collections of words or concepts.
